Recently, Indonesia has been hit with two major disasters. On Monday, 25 October 2010, an earthquake followed by tsunami hit the Mentawai islands in West Sumatra. The next day Mount Merapi, a volcano located on the border between Central Java and Yogyakarta, erupted. Both disasters have claimed hundreds of lives and affected hundreds of thousands others.
Session approved an appeal for the Indonesia Tsunami and Volcanic Disaster Appeal for four (4) consecutive Sundays: 28 Nov., 5, 12 and 19 Dec. 2010. Members of the Congregation who would like to to contribute toward the Indonesia Tsunami & Volcanic Disaster Appeal may use envelopes obtainable from ushers’ table and mark it as “Indonesia Disaster Appeal” and put them in the collection bag during offering. All cheques shall be made payable to “St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church”. The Indonesian Home Fellowship will assist to disburse all funds collected to the victims through local churches in Indonesia who have been working to help the victims.
